American Water Spaniel
Country of Origin: United States of America (USA)

The American Water Spaniel originated in Great Britain before being introduced as a new variety into America in 1865. This breed is probably a descendant of the Irish Water Spaniel, perhaps the Field Spaniel and the Old English Water Spaniel as well.

The American Water Spaniel is an extremely intelligent, very adaptable and teachable dog, with a fundamentally friendly but always watchful character, a dog which never presents any problems in a family.

This is an active medium-sized dog, its hair wavy to curly, in the USA raised as a non-specialist hunting dog. It is an even tempered, stable and muscular dog.

Size:
38 - 46 cm (15 to 18 inches) for either sex.

Color:
Either solid liver, brown or dark chocolate.

FCI Breed Standard No. 301
