Clumber Spaniel
Country of Origin: Great Britain

The Clumber Spaniel in its present form has been known in England for the last 200 years and originally was the almost exclusive property of the English nobility. Consequently the Clumber Spaniel, although of French origin, became recognised as an English dog.

The Clumber Spaniel is a heavily boned yet well balanced spaniel, which is able to move at an astonishing speed despite its size. It is a highly intelligent and well disposed dog. The general impression of this dog is one of strength. It is dependable and friendly and there is no trace of aggressiveness in its character.

Compared to other spaniels the Clumber is by nature somewhat reserved. In hunting it is recognised as a steady worker with a very keen nose and is equally successful in the field as in water. For a long time this was one of the most commonly employed hunting dogs.
