The Cocker Spaniel, the most widespread spaniel in Europe today, owes its name to the birds which were hunted with it: Woodcock, Capercailie, Moor Cock (Red Grouse), Hazel Grouse and Heath Cock (Black Grouse). Since 1893 along with the Springer Spaniel and Field Spaniel the Cocker was included in the Kennel Club stud-book as a separate breed.
The Cocker Spaniel is a square-shaped, compact and robust hunting dog, ideal for hunting and retrieving in thick, stiff thickets. The Cocker does not just react to orders, its intelligence enables it to guess its master's intentions. Its loyalty, its gentle and affectionate nature and attractive character make the Cocker an ideal companion, also as a family pet. The Cocker's friendliness is irresistible.
